A change long overdue, but at last, it's here: Any contacts created in either webmail or Nextcloud are accessible in the other one too. Nextcloud is in fact storing the contacts, so in case you sync your mobile phone with Nextcloud, you also benefit from a even more centralized contacts experience.

Note: webmail syncs the contacts in a 2 hour interval by default, which is configurable in the webmail settings.
